Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is surgical removal of uterus. It ends menstruation and the ability to become pregnant. Depending on the reason for which this surgery is planned, it may involve removal of other organs and tissues in addition to the uterus.

  1. TOTAL ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMY (TAH) – In this procedure the uterus is removed through an incision in your abdomen. Due to this incision the post operative pain is more than that seen in the other two types of hysterectomy mentioned below.  The patients can be discharged in 3-4 days. We hardly need to this type of surgery anymore.
  2. NON DESCENT VAGINAL HYSTERECTOMY (NDVH) – In this procedure the uterus is completely removed from vagina. It is less painful and comfortable for the patient and the post operative recovery is quick. The patients can be discharged in 1-2 days.
  3. LAPAROSCOPIC  HYSTERECTOMY (LH) This surgery is done via small incisions in your belly. The pain lis less. The post operative hospital stay is 1-2 days
  4. ROBOTIC HYSTERECTOMY– Using a robotic DaVinci platform, complex hysterectomy can be done with small incisions, where otherwise open surgery would have to be done.  This prevents excessive blood loss and conversion to open surgery. Especially indicated in hysterectomy for endometriosis or large fibroids.

The common indications for hysterectomy are

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

With our extensive experience of 26 years, all hysterectomy irrespective of disease severity is done by laparoscopy. Especially in such women, the rapid recovery and short time of convalescence has a major impact on morbidity.

Robotic Hysterectomy

All complex hysterectomy for large Uterus, advance endometriosis, previous mesh surgery or women who are obese are offered Robotic Hysterectomy. The quick recovery, less blood loss, less pain and quick discharge from hospital is some of the advantages.
