ICOG fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery in Gynecology

6-month Program

Dr Rooma Sinha offers a 6-month ICOG course in Endoscopy. This course effectively involves a structured, progressive approach combining didactic learning, simulation-based training, supervised clinical practice, and continuous feedback.
During the 6 months, the focus will be on Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. The candidates at the end of 6 months will learn Anatomy and physiology, Laparoscopic equipment and instrumentation, Physics of insufflation and electrosurgery, Ergonomics and patient positioning, Complications and troubleshooting. Simulation-based skills Training will help build basic hand-eye coordination and psychomotor skills in a safe environment. Laparoscopic Trainers are available to learn Camera navigation, Object manipulation, Cutting, suturing, knot tying, Peg transfer and pattern cutting exercises (e.g., FLS curriculum). Stepwise Clinical Exposure will include gradual participation in real procedures under close supervision. The operating room roles progress from Camera assistant, Instrument holder / secondary assistant, to performing portions of the procedure. We teach in a modular training approach by breaking complex surgeries into teachable steps. The trainees master one step at a time with constant Mentorship and Feedback.

Since Dr. Rooma is a very high-volume robotic surgery centre, the candidates get additional exposure to Robotic surgery and hands-on training in draping, docking, exchange instruments, and be a patient-side assistant for robotic surgery procedures. They will also get the opportunity to learn robotic surgery on the console and in a Simulation. The candidates will have to present at a conference and publish in a peer-reviewed journal during their tenure.

Assessment and Certification require a mandatory logbook. Regular assessments include Skills checklists, Simulation performance, and
Supervisor evaluations.
