Fibroid Resection

This procedure is also called Transcervical Resection of Fibroids (TCRF). Removal of fibroids that are projecting into the uterine cavity (submucous) and is done with help of hysteroscope.Submucous fibroids can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, irregular bleeding or infertility.

Evidence shows that submucous fibroids that change the shape of the uterine cavity decreased pregnancy rates by 70%. Removal of these fibroids can increase in the pregnancy rates by 70%.And when performed for heavy bleeding, nearly 90% of women have a return of normal menstrual flow.

This surgery is suitable for fibroids upto 4-5 cms size and is done as a day care surgery in operation theatre under general anaesthesia. Time taken can be 30-60 minutes depending on the size of the fibroid. It is performed without any incisions and virtually no postoperative discomfort. A small telescope called hysteroscope, is passed through the cervix into the uterine cavity. A small camera is attached to the telescope and the view is projected on a video monitor. Once in place the fibroid is visualised and the base is identified. An electrical loop is used to shave off the fibroid completely upto the base.
